About Jen Wilson
My name is Jen Wilson, and I invite you to vote for me for Schererville Town Council, Ward 5. My family moved to Schererville in 1988, back when Teibel’s and Kiddy Land were the main attractions. I watched the area grow from 19,000 people to 30,000 people. Schererville has provided affordable housing, low taxes, great public schools, safety, and security. These are the benefits of living in Schererville, and I plan to work together with our board to stay the course.
Having experienced our town as a teenager, college student, employee, mother, and daughter to aging parents, I recognize there are areas within our town we can start to improve on. I am a social person who loves to be active in life and the community. Although Schererville has worked tirelessly on building a sound foundation for people to live, it is now time to work on community engagement; to focus on the heart and soul of our residents. I want our town to be a place where everyone can find their pulse. I know Schererville prides itself on the small town aesthetic and we can build on that by connecting with each other in common community spaces. We need more opportunities to enrich our everyday lives, and access to shared communal spaces.
I plan to implement this goal in multiple ways. I have been service- and people-oriented my whole life. I have worked with young children as a teacher, volunteered in a variety of ways, raised children of my own, and continue to help people of all ages maintain a healthy lifestyle through my health and fitness entrepreneurship. I value supporting others in my community and recognize it is a key to longevity. At this time in my life I am poised to take these values and goals further.
Through local government and community engagement, I plan to broaden my impact. It is through my service on the council that, together, we can build an even better town than we have by filling in the missing pieces. I want Schererville to not only be a nice place to reside, but a place where we can feel a sense of true belonging. This opportunity to serve Schererville and all of the community members is about us working together. I will collaborate with you, the residents and the town officials to figure out what is possible.
My work and life experience have taught me how to advocate for others and how to work as a team. I thrive in a collaborative setting and know how to build consensus with multiple stakeholders when determining what’s best for our greater good. I believe we can achieve great things through democracy. Democracy is what allows people to have a voice in how we all live together and how to advance from a good town to a great town.
